The Loudoun Arts Council Visiting Artists Program Seeks to Connect Artists with Loudoun Students

The Visiting Artists program is a great opportunity for local artists to reach out to the wider community and demonstrate that art isn't in the past or confined to text books, but is happening now and is continuously evolving. Besides enriching the art curriculum, participating artists will be able to practice speaking about their work and methods and refine their presentation skills. Visiting artists will be encouraged to collaborate with art instructors and artists may also conduct their visits with another artist if they'd like.

In a recent survey, Loudoun's art teachers said they would welcome visits from local artists in any media; several teachers mentioned ceramics, mixed media, animation & fiber arts, as well as painting, drawing, photography, graphic design, video production, and paper sculpture & bookmaking. Teachers are especially interested in "hands on" demonstrations and/or interactive activities while the artist talks with students about being an artist. Artists' visits are scheduled through Melissa Pagani-Kumpf's office at LCPS and can be at any time during the year. A class visit would be either 50 minutes (through 7th grade) or 90 minutes (8th - 12th grades). This is a volunteer opportunity, but all tools and supplies for classroom activities during the visit will be provided.
