"My Beautiful Friend" by Nan Dawkins I have a great love for the Old Masters and have pursued in-depth study of their techniques in classical atelier programs around the world. Most of my larger works are done using an indirect painting method, meaning the gradual build up of many layers of paint over time. This process takes time, but the subtle, luminous detail it yields is worth the time and effort.
I paint a variety of subject matter, including still life, portrait, figure, and the many, diverse landscapes I have encountered while traveling. I am especially drawn to dramatic light effects and scenes. The passage of time, memory, and concepts of the sacred are themes that run through much of my work.
