Kay Layne's work is color field abstract expressionism. Her work features contrasting and harmonious colors with geometric
shapes imposed over flat or textured surfaces. Surfaces are created with crumpled tissue paper, paste medium, and trowel marks.  Frequently
she uses charcoal over these painted textured backgrounds to give greater depth to the surface.

Ms. Layne is a member of “Arts in the Village” in Leesburg, VA; a former member of “Max_21” artist group in Reston, VA; and Art First Gallery in Fredericksburg, VA.  She has studied painting at Rice University in Houston Texas; Art League at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia; Yellow Barn at Glen Echo Park, Glen Echo, MD; Artworks in Reston, VA; and Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center, Frederick, MD.

Ms. Layne is also a participating artWorks artist whose work could grace the walls of your venue in rotating quarterly shows.
