Artists are encouraged to apply for this unique Residency programArtists are encouraged to apply for this unique Residency program Are you looking for a venue for your creative ideas? In the COLLAB atelier project, local partners join the Loudoun Arts Council to offer qualifying LAC members quarterly residencies.

Participating artists can work in any mediumParticipating artists can work in any medium At the Loudoun County Public Library's Makerspace at Brambleton Library artists can collaborate with makers of all kinds.  Located on the ground floor of the new, state-of-the-art Brambleton Library, the Makerspace is open to the public until 9pm six nights a week. The large room has work tables and access to 3-D printers, a large scale laminator, sewing/embroidery machines, and other technologies the artist will be free to use. During the three-month residency the Library will work with the artist to create an exhibit or presentation of some kind. Artists are encouraged to plan interactions with other users of the space during their residency. The guiding principles of COLLAB residencies are focused on process, not product, and encourage willingness to take chances and solve problems. Another key component of the project is community outreach. Artists will be asked to communicate about their projects, emphasizing the overall value of art as a community-builder. Process photos and social media posting is encouraged!

Residencies will be awarded based on applying artists' proposals, with special consideration given to those willing to collaborate with a partner in at least one project during the residency. The program is not limited to visual artists. Performers, writers, musicians, and makers are also encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in cross-media collaborations.

COLLAB will offer four residency periods each year, Fall (September through November), Winter (December through February), Spring (March through May), and Summer (June through August). Artists are asked to work at least six hours per week during the period. Artists will be allowed to sell their artwork from the space. The LAC and its partners will promote artists' events through the arts council's website, electronic newsletter, and other media.

The deadline for applying for Summer Residencies is May 15.
